I've already preordered it! I highly recommend A Taste of Magic. Normally I only give star ratings. I loved this book so much I wrote my first review for it. View 1 comment. Nov 08, Geli rated it it was ok Shelves: romance , supernatural , witches , illinois. While I didnt love it, I did enjoy most of it. I thought at the beginning I would love it. Elizabeth seemed a lot like me, totally a character I could relate to. But as the story progressed Elizabeth is a baker dealing with a bad divorce and suddenly finds out she has magical powers to make her wishes come true.
Great concept, I really liked where the story seemed to be going. Somewhere in the middle, the story seemed to get muddled and slightly dragged on. I think the turning point for me is when Elizabeth was on her way to deliver a cake to her best friend but got super distracted by her so-called "hot" neighbor sorry but his description did nothing for me.
Elizabeth so far had been pretty level headed but suddenly shes so turned on she cant think straight? Just didnt seem to fit well with the character we met in the beginning. And made me lose respect for her. Then after that guys being hot seemed to be her reasoning for everything.
She knew she didnt have feelings for a guy but he's hot so why not? The magic element was great though, and I am very picky on how magic gets portrayed in books. Quite frankly it usually comes across as dull and unbelievable. So I was surprised how well it was in this one. I would have liked to have read more of her using the magic and more about Miranda. I dont think I will go on to read more in the series. The story of Alice and her creepy ex wasnt very interesting to me.
I suppose if youre looking for a paranormal romance without all the blood and vampiness this one would work fine for you. I ended up scanning the last half of the book, not reading it entirely. Because of that I wont say if its good or bad, just not my cup of tea, so I wont give it any star rating just to be fair. It has a light and quirky writing style that I know many will enjoy.
It's written in first-person, and the writing level seamed to be aimed at the young adult croud, which just isn't what I enjoy. The romance part of this book appears to be the heroine deciding between two men through much of the book, an I ended up scanning the last half of the book, not reading it entirely. The romance part of this book appears to be the heroine deciding between two men through much of the book, and deciding very near the end who it will be.
There appeared to be one very mild sex scene toward the end, so I would rate the sensuality of this book just above 'kisses' but barely 'warm'. Mar 31, Sally rated it really liked it Shelves: paranormal , e-book , romance. Not only is it the first anniversary of when her two-timing rat of an ex-husband left her for another women, she is actually baking the wedding cake for his upcoming marriage to said floozy!
Her wacky Grandma Verda comes by with a birthday card that has a surprise in it — a bit of an electric shock and some sparks — and other than that, nothing! With her newly acquired Gypsy power whenever Liz makes a wish while baking it will come true. Of course the results are not always predictable so while she hones her skills she spends a lot of time trying to undo the chaos she causes. I enjoyed this light and fluffy read, and if you read a paranormal romance and expect rocket science then you are going to be disappointed. It has a good plausible plot, great pacing, humour and lots of magic.

Liz really grows as a character during the story which I always like to see — and I loved how she first meets her love interest Nate. She decides to climb through her bathroom window and gets stuck, so her head is in the house — and her bum in the air outside. Nate is a policeman so thinks she is a criminal breaking in.
As with all good romantic plots there is attraction and then a misunderstanding before the HEA can occur. I'm not a forgiving person lol Let's just say the second spell wouldn't have been for what she made it for, but would've instead been an extension of the first spell, only one intended to last the entire marriage.
Overall, an easy read. This wasn't the best book I have read but it wasn't the worst book by far. Honestly it started out amazing, a head start straight from the starting block and then it got bogged down and picked up enough that it wasn't painful to finish. I will however say I have glad when I was done. The book follows a young, divorced woman through a journey of self-discovery with the addition of gypsy magic.

I loved the male characters, they were all the perfect gentleman, save for Marc but the female characters fell short for me. Overall the book wasn't as magical as I like them but I would recommend it to anyone for a quick flirty read; would be an excellent beach companion!

It kept my attention, and the magic part was interesting although the best part was her first spell when she didn't even know she had magic. I'm not a fan of the "all of a sudden every man wants her" book. It doesn't matter how we get there - in this case a spell - it just gets old. I think that the author was going for a more "realistic" portrayal of a fledgling couple - who knows if it will all work out, enjoy what you have while you have it, but that's This was a fun enough, short romance.
I think that the author was going for a more "realistic" portrayal of a fledgling couple - who knows if it will all work out, enjoy what you have while you have it, but that's not what romances are about. If I'm reading a romance, it's because I already know how its going to end, I'm just interested in how they get there.
Mar 13, Alicia rated it liked it. This was a pretty decent read. I loved the witchy aspect and loved the yummy guys all around Liz. Loved her quirky grandma.. I would love to have the ability to make things happen just by baking something tasty! I would have went hardcore on the ex husband. All in all, I thought it was well written and amusing.
It has magic, romance, and sweet revenge.. I read this in just a few hours as it is a fun but fast read.

However, it took awhile to read because it didn't hold my attention for more than a chapter or 2. It was very easy to put down and come back to. I appreciated Elizabeth's growth throughout the book. I liked that she wasn't selfish with her magic. There is a love triangle, luckily it gets resolved. Feb 26, Sara rated it it was ok. Elizabeth is a baker dealing with a bad divorce, when she finds out she has magical powers to make her wish come true. Great concept. However as a character, Elizabeth, annoyed me to no end. For me, I found her the type not the properly think of the consequences before taking any action. Something she doesn't properly learn until about half way through the book, when she tries to make amends, but takes her time in doing so.

What if you were given the ability to make magic? What would you do and who would you help? Would you get your revenge on those who have made your life miserable? These are the questions that arise for bakery owner, Elizabeth Stevens. It has been a big year for Elizabeth as she is turning thirty-sex. Her ex-husband is getting married to the woman he cheating on Elizabeth with. Plus, they hired Elizabeth to bake their wedding cake.
Elizabeth sw What if you were given the ability to make magic? Elizabeth swallows her pride because one simple sell can help her bakery and repay the loan her lousy ex-husband Marc gave to her to keep the bakery going while they were still married. It seems that their family is from a long line of gypsies and now Elizabeth has this magic she can use in the treats she bakes. She makes a wish for the person she bakes a desert for and when they eat it, the wish will come true for them.
Not only is Elizabeth trying to figure out how to use this new ability of hers, but her dry spell in the romance department is over. A Taste of Magic is a cute read that has its moments of hilarity. Tracy Madison has written some engaging characters and Elizabeth is a woman you can sympathize with. I liked how Tracy wrote the interactions with Elizabeth and her family and friends. It was also fun the see how Elizabeth juggles both Nate and Kevin, but at times the use of her magic becomes bit too much and almost overtakes the story.
If that was toned down a bit and Tracy had stuck more to the relationship side of things, A Taste of Magic would have been a much better read. Mar 28, LP King rated it liked it Recommends it for: chick lit fans. Shelves: women-s-fiction-romance. While there are numerous romantic elements to this story, it's more of a chick lit tale than a romance.
It was enjoyable enough as a light read, but suffers from several flaws. The stream of consciousness of the protagonist, Liz, is often too detailed and loosely written. At times, the reader feels like she's chatting on the phone to her angst ridden best friend, rather than reading a novel. In romance, exploration of the characters' motivations and thoughts can be more detailed and explanatory t While there are numerous romantic elements to this story, it's more of a chick lit tale than a romance.
In romance, exploration of the characters' motivations and thoughts can be more detailed and explanatory than in other genres, but Liz's self-justifications and self-examinations could have used editorial tightening. At times, the story meanders. Some sub-plots and side stories are distracting. They don't serve the purpose of moving the story along or revealing Liz's character and growth. Because the story is chick lit, I wouldn't expect a detailed examination of the psyche of Liz's love interest, but I felt three secondary male characters were fleshed out better than the man with whom Liz is falling in love.
Her interactions with her ex-husband were instrumental in Liz's maturation, her process of moving past her nasty divorce. However, I felt the balance between revelation of her ex's character and that of her business partner and her personal trainer was suboptimal from the perspective of developing the story arc. The magical element, Liz's inherited ability to cast spells through her baking, is an effective story mechanism for highlighting her personal growth.
Before she tries out her newly acquired powers, she's stuck in a holding pattern a year after a nasty divorce. If this book were literature, I'd say the magical ability is a metaphor for moving past self-absorbed early adulthood and into maturity. Though the novel is light entertainment, there is some element of the literary device in the paranormal aspect of the tale. However, this book is designed more to appeal to readers of chick lit than paranormal romance.
Feb 27, Samantha March rated it liked it. Elizabeth Stevens is turning thirty-five alone and single. Her partner at their bakery A Taste of Magic booked the event without knowing, and the bakery is in serious need for cash and clients, so the Liz refused to turn them down. Then, her grandmother, kooky Grandma Verda, reveals to Liz that she has inherited magical powers on her birthday.
Turns out, Liz is from a line of gypsie Elizabeth Stevens is turning thirty-five alone and single. Turns out, Liz is from a line of gypsies, and now the magic has been passed down to her. But she needs to find a way to control her gifts, because simple mistakes can lead to drastic changes for her family and friends. On top of that, Liz is trying to balance between the hunky cop neighbor and her perfect boyfriend material trainer, while juggling her overly nosy family and damn ex husband. A Taste of Magic by Tracy Madison is cute and quite funny at times. Liz is very relatable, well, besides the whole gypsy magic part, but other than that, she is very down to earth and women would be able to connect with her.
Madison tends to jump forward then back in the timeline of events, often confusing me.
And there were a few plot points that I thought were simply unnecessary and could have been cut out. Overall, it was a light read, not my favorite, and the writing needed to be sharper. I know A Taste of Magic is the first in this series, and I hope the others are more engaging. Sep 14, Cj W rated it liked it Shelves: fiction , romance.
